EDITING, LEADERSHIP, & TEAM BUILDING
AS A SENIOR ANCHOR FOR CPTV QUICKCUT...
All staff members of CPTV are held at the highest caliber for student journalists. The senior anchors of the class were given a leadership role which included assisting younger members of the class in the writing and editing process. I had to balance my weekly segments along with making sure the other staff members were comfortable with the story they had been given. I believe that leadership is one of the greatest traits of a high school journalist, and these kind of roles can benefit greatly before stepping into a journalism career. Of course, it can be tricky critiquing other's work; it is never meant to be harmful, only helpful. Since our class is like a family, we always had each other's best interest at heart during the critical moments of editing.

I first received the opportunity to anchor in November of 2021 during my sophomore year. Below, I have placed the first QuickCUT I anchored; this episode has a very special place in my heart. This episode went on to win the 2022 NATAS Chicago/Midwest Chapter Crystal Pillar for Newscast, and it eventually went on to win the National Student Production Award for Newscast. This newscast seriously changed my trajectory of life; I now want to pursue a career in Broadcast Journalism. I am so proud to say I anchored this piece alongside the 2023 Indiana High School Journalist of the Year, Chris Gloff.
AS A NEW MEMBER OF THE 90.7 WPSR SENIOR CLASS...
As mentioned in my personal narrative, I moved to Evansville in the summer of 2023. This meant I had to leave my CPTV staff behind and adjust to a completely new group of seniors in the Media Communications & Broadcasting Level II class at the Southern Indiana Career & Technical Center. The adjustment was not easy; I had to fit into a very close-knit class who had spent every day together for a year prior. It took a few weeks to fit in, but I knew right away that I was going to make some life long friends.

It has been very inspiring getting to learn from a new group of student media creators. We bounce ideas off of each other, teach each other tips and tricks we have learned, and create some incredible projects together. The Media Communications & Broadcasting class is primarily group and project based which is different from CPTV where we focused on a weekly newscast and our radio responsibilities. I have gotten to explore more of the film and creative content production, and I have gotten to lead my group when we complete newscast and broadcast journalism projects. Below I have placed a group newscast I created in August 2023 with Kaelyn Austin, Olivia Burklow, and Mariah Moore.

While I was initially disappointed with having to transfer into a new media class, I feel that I have progressed greatly in my range of media creation. I have gained great opportunities like receiving an internship at Evansville's PBS/NPR station WNIN. All in all, I have persevered through a tough time in my life and have become a much stronger journalist.
WORK HARD...PLAY HARD
What I love about both of the media programs I have been a part of is the desire to have fun and enjoy each other's company. Every year my programs have organized Friendsgiving potlucks, Secret Santa gift exchanges, WPSR (Super) Bowls, and more. We look forward to going on field trips to colleges and contests because we know the amazing memories we will make together along the way. We spend so much time working hard, so it is always a breath of fresh air when we can sit back, relax, and have a good laugh together.
