REPORTING & WRITING

A great broadcast journalist must be well-rounded when it comes to the factors that create a newscast. One must be able to write scripts, shoot B-roll, edit the package together, and report the news. Over the past three years, I have practiced this craft weekly to create a desirable newscast for students, teachers, and the public. Below I have placed my on-air work along with my work on the production side.

DEGENHART RADIO IN DEPTH

COLLEGE RADIO IN-DEPTH - SEPTEMBER 2023

AIRED ON 90.7 WPSR

I was very shocked and inspired when I learned that only 19% of Indiana's population has a bachelor's degree. I was fascinated by this statistic, so I chose to produce a radio in-depth about this topic at the beginning of my senior year. I researched for weeks to find accurate statistics to write and voice this in-depth newscast. The intro and outro music were provided by my instructor Mrs. Bootz, so it could air on our station.

2022-2023 CALENDAR CHANGES

SEGMENT FROM CPTV NEWSCAST JANUARY 2022 - PLACED 2ND AT IASB

This was one of the first traditional news segments I  produced from the 2022 IASB state runner-up school newscast. This package is in regard to the changes for the 2022-2023 school year. This was one of my first "big" assignments as a new sophomore in CPTV, and I had to prove that I could put together all the components for a captivating news package. I wrote the script, organized the interview, edited the B-Roll with voiceovers, and reported.

SOCIAL MEDIA TALENT REEL

WORK FROM MAY 2022-MAY 2023

2023 NATAS CHICAGO/MIDWEST CHAPTER CRYSTAL PILLAR FINALIST - TALENT

CPTV QuickCUT is truly where my journalism passion began. It is a sharp, modern form of news where anchors deliver much shorter stories than usual. Each segment is a challenge, for CPTV writers have to sum up an entire news story in only 22-30 seconds. This reel showcases my on-air talent in a social media newscast designed for Snapchat.

COLLEGE ESSAY - AUGUST 2024

Along with writing for news, I have gotten a lot of practice writing creatively through courses such as AP Literature. My college essay is an example of a written piece that shows my use of imagery and shares a piece of my heart. This essay is one of the factors in my acceptance to the University of Missouri School of Journalism, one of the nation's top journalism programs. RADIO NEWSCAST - JANUARY 2024

SUBMITTED TO IASB IN "RADIO NEWS ANCHOR LIVE" CATEGORY

AWARDS ANNOUNCED IN MARCH 2024

In this radio newscast, I focused on showcasing my range of ability in reporting challenging international stories as well as light-hearted stories about my beloved Stanley Cup. I wrote and voiced all stories.

RADIO SPORTSCAST- JANUARY 2024

SUBMITTED TO IASB IN "RADIO SPORTSCAST" CATEGORY

AWARDS ANNOUNCED IN MARCH 2024

Full transparency - I despise watching sports. I understand the rules, and I CAN watch sports, I just have never found joy in doing so. However, when IASB rolls around, I want to showcase my reporting abilities in all forms of news. I challenged myself this year to watch a few games, so I could write and voice this sportscast. To say I am proud of this piece of journalism is an understatement.
